About ABSA

The Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA) is a not-for-profit incorporated association representing building and design professionals who specialise in assessing the environmental impact of buildings.

The ABSA Accreditation Scheme provides a Quality Assured system and Assessor support network under which Assessors carry out ratings of both the building, and space heating and hot water systems in your home. ABSA Accreditation and rating processes has been designed to meet the requirements of the NZ HERS Scheme.

ABSA Accreditation requires all ABSA Assessors to complete rigorous training and examination to ensure a high standard of Assessor qualification. Assessors are subject to auditing of their work by ABSA and are backed by Professional Indemnity and Liability Insurances to provide consumer protection and confidence. All Assessors must also practice in accordance with ABSA Code of Practice requirements and standardised Procedures when carrying out ratings and undergo annual continuing professional development.

ABSA's services include:

  • training and support for sustainability Assessors and ABSA members
  • developing accreditation and Quality Assurance schemes for Assessors
  • liaising with Government departments ensuring ABSA Schemes meet the objectives of NZ HERS
